10 grim things about sex workers & porn

Sex workers protest
  1. Many are forced into it

Many of the ‘actors’ and ‘actresses’ in sexually explicit videos have been coerced or even forced into partaking. This is also the case with many sex workers. After being separated from their family, they’re told that by not playing the role they are assigned, their loved ones will be hurt. Other times, it’s just desperate men and women who don’t know how else to put food on the table.

  1. The rise of sex trafficking

Popular websites like ‘GirlsDoPorn’ have been shut down after the owners and some employees have been charged with sex trafficking.

  1. Victims think they’re going to have successful careers

Often hired under false pretences, countless men and women in porn videos and working as prostitutes believe they’re going to have successful careers, like as models or actors. Before they know it, they’re being forced to have relations with strangers, either out on the streets, in a seedy house or in front or a camera.

  1. You might have watched some victims by mistake

Some of the filming companies used to record trafficked people are very professional with high quality recording equipment and the best of the best. Some videos end up on popular websites like PornHub.

  1. Many victims are coerced into taking drugs

… which they are ultimately ‘charged’ for. The grim lifestyle leads to depression, anxiety and often, addiction. And when they’re addicted, more work keeps getting added to make up for the cost of the drugs. Other times, drugs are given as a ‘reward’ for doing what’s asked of them without bad behaviour.

  1. Some victims start running them

Some organisations are run by people who were previously trafficked. Many victims are also forced to run the organisations, with their families being threatened if they don’t comply. It takes responsibility away from the behind-the-scenes organisers if the group is caught.

  1. The abuse is often daily

Some forced sex workers rarely get a day off and the ones that do usually get only one day off a week.

  1. Some victims get Stockholm Syndrome

… they get used to it and just accept it as life. They can’t escape and some even feel as though they may as well at least try to enjoy it, ultimately making them feel worse. A sense of guilt follows…

  1. Sometimes victims are forced to have sex without a condom

Some men and women are forced to have sex without a condom and they aren’t taken for medical check ups afterwards because the people who force them into this lifestyle just don’t care.

  1. Many prostitutes are forced into it, too

… sometimes by the people they trust most, like partners, friends or family members. And sometimes its strangers who take advantage of them. And their ‘pimp’ often walks away with the biggest chunk of the ‘profits’.
